Team GB’s 16U Squad Shines on the European Stage

A huge congratulations to the incredible 16U Girls’ Team GB squad, made up of Tennis First grantees Edie Griffiths and Daniella Britton, alongside by former grantee Hollie Smart. Under the expert guidance of Katie O'Brien and Alex Carrie, the team represented Great Britain with pride, passion and purpose on the international stage.

Their journey began in Sete, France, for the Tennis Europe Summer Cups qualifiers, where they put in commanding performances to overcome both Belgium and Greece, earning a well-deserved place in the final. There, they came up against a formidable top-seeded French team and, despite a battling effort, fell just short. Still, their success in qualifying secured them a place in the prestigious Finals.

After a demanding week of travel and competition, Team GB were drawn against tournament favourites Romania in the opening round of the Finals. Though they fought hard, they were edged out 3–0 by the eventual champions.

Showing true resilience and determination, the girls bounced back in style producing back-to-back victories in the play-offs against both Hungary and Austria to finish an impressive 5th place overall in Europe.

This campaign wasn’t just about results, it was about growth. The squad gained invaluable experience, challenged the best in Europe, and demonstrated exceptional teamwork and spirit both on and off the court.

We are incredibly proud of what these young tennis players achieved, and even more excited for what’s to come. Well done, girls!
