Tennis First GRANTEEs Shine on Wimbledon Grass
Tennis First is incredibly proud to celebrate a truly unforgettable week for our young grantees who were invited to compete in the 14U Invitational during the second week of Wimbledon, an extraordinary privilege that few players their age will ever experience.
To walk through the gates of the All England Lawn Tennis Club, compete on the pristine grass courts and perform in front of crowds during one of the sport’s most iconic events is not just a milestone, it’s a dream come true. And our grantees rose to the occasion with heart, skill and incredible poise.
Liv Zingg was exceptional in the group stage, winning all her matches in straight sets. She narrowly missed out in the final stages, falling to eventual Champion, Sakino Miyazawa of Japan in a tight championship tie-break 3-6, 7-5, 10-5. Her precision and focus throughout the event was truly impressive as she yet again raised her game on the big stage.
Milica Sakamoto Milojevic and Grace Watson both earned second places in their groups, winning 2 out of 3 matches. Their all-court game and ability to remain calm under pressure reflected maturity beyond their years. April Sackflame put in a strong performance to secure a win in the group stage, clinching a championship tie-break 13-11, a testament to her determination and fighting spirit.
Haqim Kamal showcased impressive talent, winning 2 of his 3 group stage matches to place second in Group D. He continued to fight in the consolation play-off, narrowly falling short in a nail-biting contest against Yu Ting Wu 7-5, 6-7(4), 11-9. Haqim’s competitive spirit and recent progress was remarkable to watch.
The event is far more than just a tournament, it’s a glimpse into the future. Playing during the second week of Wimbledon on the historic grass courts, give these young tennis players a rare and unforgettable experience. We couldn’t be prouder of what these rising stars have achieved, and we can't wait to see where their journeys lead next.
Well done, team. The future is bright.
