Success In SW19

Continuing a positive grass court swing, Katie Boulter equalled her career best result at Wimbledon by reaching the 3rd round. The newly crowned British No.1, fought hard to secure her place on Centre Court to face the 3rd seed and defending champion, Elena Rybakina. Giving it her all, Katie’s Wimbledon came to and end with a 6-1, 6-1 defeat. There have been many positives to take from the British summer of tennis, not only winning the Rothesay Open Nottingham title but also for building confidence after injuries which saw her sidelined for recent months. Katie's ranking rises to 73 on the WTA rankings.

Jodie Burrage won her first ever Grand Slam main draw match coming through against America’s Caty McNally 6-1, 6-3 in little over an hour. It was an emotional win for Jodie who also reached the final in Nottingham at the Rothesay Open. Her recent performance places her ranking at a career high inside the Top 100 for the very first time at 98.

Liam Broady had a memorable run in SW19 causing one of the tournament’s biggest upsets the year by knocking out 4th seed Casper Ruud 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-0. Rising to the occasion on Centre Court, Liam said coming out in front of the home crowd had “been my dream since I was five-years-old.” Liam narrowly missed out on the fourth round after coming up short against Denis Shapovalov, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5, 7-5. A fantastic achievement by Liam and hopefully his recent performances will prove to him that he can battle with the best in the game.

Maia Lumsden and Naiktha Bains became the first British pairing to reach the third round of the women's doubles draw since 1983. They outlasted Viktoria Hruncakova and Tereza Mihalikova 6-3, 6-7(5), 6-3. The duo have already won 5 ITF titles together, we look forward to following this partnership’s continued success

Ranah Akua Stoiber reached the Girls’ Junior quarter-final losing out in a three set battle to Nikola Bartunkova 1-6, 6-1, 6-2.

Henry Searle became the first British Boys’ Junior Wimbledon Champion since Stanley Matthews in 1962. Henry dispatched 4 seeds, including the top seed in round one. Henry showed poise in the final winning 6-4, 6-4 against fifth seen Yaroslav Demin.

In the 14U Invitational Hollie Smart won all her round robin matches to come out on top of her group to advance to the final after a straight set victory in the semi-final. Hollie lost 6-3, 6-1 to Serbia’s Luna Vujovic in a high level final.

Edie Griffiths won 2 matches in the consolation draw and battled hard to beat Jizelle Sibai 10-6 in a championship tiebreak.

Mark Ceban was top of his group without losing a match, he then won through the semi finals without dropping a set to reach the final where he beat Svit Suljic 7-6 (5), 6-3 to claim the title.

Rhys Lawlor won 2 out of 3 matches in his group and went on to win 2 matches in the consolation draw.

A unique experience for our young grantees to play on the Wimbledon grass and a wonderful learning opportunity to play among the top players in the 14U age group.
