Award for Dean: Progress for Taylor posted 10 06 2010 Eleanor Dean had her recent good form recognised by the award of the Aegon Junior Player of the Month Award for May. The 14 year old won her first ever ITF junior tournament in Montenegro last month which meant she was eligible to play in senior events. And her senior debut was not long coming after she was awarded a wild card into the $50,000 Nottingham ITF qualifying event. With an unlucky draw of the 6th seeded South African Natalie Grandin in Round 1, Eleanor played creditably but lost 6-3 6-3 to a player 5 years older. Meanwhile Lucas Taylor was working his way to the final of a Tennis Europe tournament in Reykjavic. After a bye, Lucas beat home-based Tero Jokinen, German Leon Schwarz and 2nd seeded German Boris Klingebiel, all without dropping a set. The final was a much closer affair with Lucas losing out 6-4 3-6 6-3 to Estonia’s Ilya Vasilyev to conclude another successful week’s development.

Katy Gets It Dunne in Nottingham ITF posted 13 04 2010 Katy Dunne swept all before her at the ITF Aegon Nottingham event the week of April 5. Her progress through the first four rounds was serenely smooth, dropping few games and no sets. She did, however, account for three seeded players along the way, Aarzoo Malik of India (6), Britain's Sian Baylis (9) and Karin Kennel (4) from Switzerland. Things got tougher in the semi final against Pia Konig of Austria (3) but Katy recovered from losing the first set to run out a comfortable winner 6-2 6-2. Another Tennis First grantee, Ruth Seaborne, awaited her in the final, and after again losing the first set, Katy sealed a sensational week with a 5-7 6-3 6-3 triumph. Seaborne, herself the 15th seed, also began in untroubled fashion, winning three rounds without the loss of a set. After surviving a close 3 set match with Britain's Nicole Peterson (4), two further home grown players were beaten as normal straight sets service was resumed – the first another Tennis First grantee, Emma Devine and the second Abi Melrose (7) as Ruth reached the final. In the boy's event, Luke Bambridge again showed his promise as he earned a semi final place. Only just out of the 14 division, Luke easily saw off Stanislav Loginov of Russia before surprising the top seed, Britain's Robert Carter 6-4 4-6 6-2. Daniel Elston (GB) and Alexandre Favrot (FRA) fell in straight sets as Luke showed the older division holds no terrors for him. He finally fell to Dimitri Bretting of Switzerland, the fourth seed, 6-7 3-6.

Kyle and Katy win Aegon Junior International posted 13 04 2010 Making the best possible use of his wild card entry, 15 year old Kyle Edmund gained his first junior world ranking points with an emphatic 6-4 6-0 win over Ben Mullis after a triumphant march to the final. Yorkshireman Kyle did not drop a set in the entire week in Nottingham. Nottingham is obviously to Katy Dunne's liking, too, as she secured a second straight win at the Midlands venue – and in consecutive weeks. Bizarrely her final opponent was another grantee Ruth Seaborne, so it must have been déjà vu for both girls as Katy won 6-4 6-4. Ruth achieved some measure of consolation, however, as she teamed up with Joanna Henderson to take the doubles title. As a result of her two tournament wins in April, Katy was awarded the Aegon Junior Player of the Month award.

The fourth seeded Edmund saw off 2 Frenchmen, Cedric Blaye and Fabien Reboul in straight sets, and gave the same treatment to Spaniard David Biosca. In a tough semi final, Frenchman Laurent Lokoli proved too strong over 3 sets 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, and went on to win the event. But Kyle wasn't finished. He teamed up with Billy Harris to reach the doubles final where another Tennis First grantee Luke Bambridge and his partner Chris Pearce lay in wait.
