Winchester Fun Tennis Day (12 noon - 5pm) on 19 09 2010

This is a fun tennis outing for gentlemen 'of a certain age' (normally 50+) who still enjoy competing.

It provides an opportunity for players in the region to meet some old friends and make some new ones! The Winchester Tennis and Squash Club is the leading tennis club in Hampshire with 18 courts in a lovely setting.

For more details of the club go to www.thewinchesterclub.net

You are cordially invited to join some old mates (and make some new ones) for some friendly competitive tennis. The idea is to have some fun and to raise some money for young players. The event is aimed at players whose best tennis years may be behind them, but who still enjoy the challenge.

Entry forms from organiser Ken Weatherley at kenweatherley@hotmail.com

Format of the Event:

1. The event will be a men's doubles competition in round robin boxes. Entries should be in pairs, but any player is welcome and we will endeavour to find suitable partners.
2. Each match will consist of 6 games and a tie break game, regardless of the score. The tie-break game will count as one game. The winner of the box will be the pair with the most number of games. The organiser may at his discretion apply a hidden handicap to any pair or pairs at the start of play.
3. Play will begin from 12 noon and conclude at around 5pm with prizegiving. (You will not be asked to play for the entirety of this time. A running buffet lunch will be provided from about 1.30pm
4. The entry fee will be £30 per player. The entry fee will cover the cost of courts, balls, prizes, lunch and a contribution to the charity. (Please ensure that you complete the Gift Aid section of the entry form to allow us to reclaim tax from HMRC)
5. There will be a small auction which will run in association with the event. There are some interesting lots – some serious, some modest. It is important to the success of the fundraising element of the event that, play or not, you distribute details of the auction to as many potentially interested parties as possible.
6. The referee's decision will be final! He does not, however, expected to be called on court to adjudicate any dispute!

Aegon Masters (Albert Hall) on 30 11 2010

Royal Albert Hall, November 30 – December 5 2010.

Tennis First has a long association with this popular event in the fabulous venue which is the Royal Albert Hall. This year Tim Henman, a long term supporter of Tennis First, will be playing for the first time, together with Stefan Edberg and Pat Rafter.
Organisers IMG have kindly given as the opportunity to sell exclusive hospitality boxes for either 8 or 12 for any session, although you can share a box with others if you wish.
On the evening of Wednesday December 1st Tennis First has also reserved a private room for a champagne reception and buffet supper prior to play.

The Masters Tennis is without parallel as a season ending event, partly because if offers an opportunity to see some old favourites and partly because of the intimacy and grandeur which make The Royal Albert Hall a really special tennis venue.
But make no mistake, the singles players remain competitive and last year's final between Edberg and Rafter could have gone either way before the likeable Aussie just got home. This year Tim Henman makes a welcome return to competitive play.

Wimbledon to Roland Garros Cycle Ride on 28 05 2011

Now here's a challenge for you – with a lovely end play!

The challenge is the c 400 km ride from the All England Club, Wimbledon via Dover to Roland Garros in Paris. The 4 day ride will be fully supported by a specialist team, who will have vans at the front and back of the group; provide directional signage throughout; give technical and medical back-up; arrange accommodation en route and in Paris at the luxurious Pullman Hotel; and bring your bike back to London and provide you with a Eurostar ticket home.

The idea is to arrive in Paris for the middle weekend of the French Open and provide all riders with ground entry to the tennis. At this time there are still a lot of matches to see, and in particular the Junior Event, in which some Tennis First grantees may be playing. We are told that the ride is not THAT arduous and could be managed by any reasonably fit person with about 12 weeks training.

Spaces are limited and you will need to raise c £2,000 of sponsorship to participate.

So if you're up for the challenge and want to secure your place, just email organiser Ken Weatherley at ken.weatherley@tennisfirst.org.uk to register your interest.
